Supreme Court on CAA, says No Stay on CAA & NRC

Supreme Court on CAA says No Stay on CAA & NRC

The top court on Wednesday refuses to pass any stay order on the Citizenship Amendment Act, which means govt is free to implement laws, three judges bench of Justice SA Bobde, Justice Abdul Nazeer and Sanjiv Khanna was hearing total 143 petitions against the validity of CAA.

The Supreme Court has issued notice to Centre and given Centre four week time to reply, hence Centre has to file replies on CAA related pleas, except Assam and Tripura related petitions which Supreme Court has listed the case for future hearing and will hear it separately.

SC also orders High Courts for not hearing any petition related to CAA.

Most of the petitions are challenging the validity of CAA and argue that this law is violating the structure of Indian Constitutions and provide citizenship on the basis of religion which is pure discrimination.
